Coaching Boys to Men
In Kuria and Maasai communities, men play a critical role of making lots of decisions related to cultural beliefs and social norms. This means even on matters related to ending FGM, they have a significant role to play in bringing change within the communities. In addition, engaging boys to shift the mindset of marrying girls who are not cut will lead to abandonment of FGM.
HOPE for Girls @ VISA working with the primary schools in the catchment area, engages the adolescent boys through sports to sensitize them on the need to support the girls education, decision to say NO to FGM and become change agents in the community to advocate for the vices that hinder the girls from achieving their potential.
During the sporting session, the boys are sensitized on FGM and its effects, how they can speak-up for the girls- #HeforShe by a Male Champion whom we link with each school.
