HOPE for Girls @ VISA matches adolescent girls and young women with mentors to provide tailored support necessary to empower them to achieve their dreams through Adopt-a-Girl Mentorship program. The Mentors share their experiences of how they overcame the pressure of being forced to undergo female genital mutilation and early marriage. They also share on how they managed to excel in primary and secondary school.
Girls growing up oppressed by extreme poverty and gender inequality are rarely asked what they want to be when they grow up. For many of them, they have never been given a chance to think about what they want in life.
At our centre, we give girls the freedom to explore their aspirations through a series of empowering sessions where they receive one-on-one mentoring and coaching to develop their self-worth, create a plan for their future and paired with someone to walk with them to accomplish their goals.
Within the primary schools in our catchment area, we establish mentorship clubs which provides a safe environment for the girls to have open discussions on all subjects and build healthy communication and information sharing.
